PC file backup basics
Keep at least one separate copy of important personal files.
What to try
- Identify important folders such as Documents, Pictures and project files.
- Copy them to a trusted external drive or another storage location.
- Keep the backup device separate when it is not being used.
- Open a few backed-up files occasionally to confirm the copies work.
- For very important data, consider keeping another copy in a reputable cloud or off-site service.
Safety note
A backup is only useful if you can restore from it. Never rely on one copy stored on the same PC.
